Mark Kovnatskiy is a widely traveled and highly acclaimed violinist, composer, lecturer, and expert in Yiddish dances based in Hamburg, Germany.
He is at the head of a generation that has saved the sensitive playing style of the old Klezmorim for the present and developed it further. He has performed and taught at many music festivals around the world from the USA and Canada to Japan.
Mark has worked with orchestras such as the Musica Viva (RU), Augsburger Philharmoniker (GER), Aurora Orchestra (UK), INSO Lviv (UA), Weimar Staatskapelle (GER), and Kölner Akademie (GER), as well as with the choir Schola Kantorum Weimar (GER).
Mark Kovnatskiy is the ambassador of the ACCORD CASE company (Croatia) and the STRING KING company (Sweden).
His own compositions are performed by various musical projects (both klezmer and classical) around the world, including musicians from the San Francisco Symphony (USA) and Neue Philharmonie Westfalen (GER).

Dear friends, I finally found time to edit a video of a concert that took place in Tokyo, Japan, this past February, when I was teaching music with Dr. Alan Bern and Sayumi Yoshida as part of the festival Yiddish Academy Tokyo, which is organized by our friend and colleague, Mr. Chitoshi Hinoue (Kyoto, Japan).
Over the next few days, I will post some excerpts from that concert.
Today I will start with a wonderful tune called "Gedanken" composed by my colleague, friend, and mentor, one of the coryphaei of Yiddish music, director of such great musical projects as Brave Old World, The Other Europeans, Semer Ensemble, director of the international festival Yiddish Summer Weimar, Dr. Alan Bern.
This tune was originally composed by Alan at the request of and for the wonderful marimba player, Alex Jacobowitz, some years ago. Alan subsequently made an arrangement of this tune for violin and piano duet.
Gedanken is a separate kind of melodies performed by klezmorim. They had the concert form and were intended for listening only.

Accord is unable to fulfill promises for delivery. I requested a luthier in Madrid to order Accord case on March 15. One of the few emails I have received from Accord sales was received after order was placed which provided time frame when shipping tracking number could be expected - SIX to EIGHT WEEKS after order was received. After 6 weeks with no further communication from Accord regarding status of guitar case delivery, AND after multiple attempts to contact Accord by email and phone by me and luthier in Madrid, I finally received email from Accord sales with new promise to receive shipping tracking number by EOD on May 10. I still have not received shipping tracking number or any email responses from Accord. This company is not recommended as business partner for any luthier of high end guitars as they can not support a production rate of six new high end guitars per year.
